UWE BioBlitz

A BioBlitz is a fantastic way for students to study the range of biodiversity and ecosystems on campus and opportunity to gain experience and enthusiasm from experts. The all day event will be held on 20 October in the Wallscourt Farm area of campus and coincides with both UWE Sustainability week and 2010 being the International Year of Biodiversity. Scheduled events with experts include activities such as invertebrate, fungal, botanical, moth and bat surveys.

Students will be able to gain knowledge from both UWE Academic staff and outside experts, gaining invaluable hands on experience, practical i.d.ing skills and sharing knowledge with other participants. Species will be identified using i.d. keys and microscopes to the best level possible and verified in further detail by naturalists with expertise and then recorded on local and national monitoring schemes which will then be passed to BRERC (Bristol Regional Environmental Centre) for species mapping purposes.

Student volunteers are needed for the event and the UWE CVP Team will be advertising for recruitment to assist with roles such as Guides, stewards, media coverage and updating the UWE BioBlitz blog.
